ONLINE PROGRAM
Weekly Start Dates – Every Monday
Phlebotomy Program
The Phlebotomy program at River Parishes Institute (RPI) prepares students for entry-level positions as Phlebotomy Technicians in a variety of healthcare settings. The program focuses on developing the knowledge and practical skills required for safe and effective blood collection and patient care.
Course topics include anatomy and physiology, phlebotomy practices in the healthcare setting, infection control, legal and regulatory considerations, and venipuncture procedures. Students gain hands-on experience in a supervised skills lab environment where they practice essential blood collection techniques.
Upon successful completion of the program requirements, students receive a certificate of completion and are encouraged to pursue national certification through the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) and licensure through the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners. To maintain certification, graduates must complete 10 hours of continuing education every two years.
Flexible Hybrid Learning Format
The Phlebotomy program is designed with maximum flexibility to support students with busy schedules. The program is delivered in a five-week hybrid format, combining online theory with required in-person skills training.
Students can complete the majority of coursework online while attending scheduled hands-on skills lab sessions to develop practical clinical competencies.
Clinical Experience and Hands-On Training
Students apply theoretical knowledge through supervised practice in a clinical skills lab setting. The clinical portion includes supervised venipuncture and capillary puncture procedures, ensuring students develop confidence and proficiency in blood collection techniques.
While theory coursework is delivered online, in-person hands-on skills training is required to demonstrate clinical competence and practical abilities.
