River Parishes Institute Courses
PATIENT CARE TECHNICIAN
This program will be a combination of the Nurse Aide, Phlebotomy Technician, and EKG Technician Program.
WEEKDAY & WEEKEND PROGRAMS
The course is designed to provide the student with the knowledge and skills necessary to perform basic care services for residents in long-term care facilities. It prepares the student to function in the role of nursing assistant under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN) or licensed practical nurse (LPN).
EKG Technicians assist physicians in diagnosing and treating cardiac (heart) and peripheral vascular (blood vessel) ailments by performing diagnostic tests to assess the heart rhythm and rate in patients. They are employed by hospitals and medical/surgical clinics.
A phlebotomy technician draws quality blood and takes other diagnostic samples from patients and prepares those specimens for medical testing. The phlebotomy technician must create an atmosphere of trust and confidence with patients while drawing blood and other diagnostic specimens in a skillful, safe, and reliable manner.
